Welcome to the Academic Support Process

The Academic Support Process website was designed to provide guidance and support to medical educators so that they can:

  • create individualized support plans to guide learners as they strive for their best in their training
  • identify learners with performance concerns early on in residency
  • precisely and clearly identify the issues for these learners
  • design individualized support plans to attend to these concerns using the most effective and efficient learning strategies
  • generate a record of the approaches used to address the learners' needs
  • access up-to-date resource materials in medical education
  • recognize and find solutions to challenges in the resident learning experience

The Academic Support Process website is a Department of Family Medicine, University of Ottawa initiative. The version you are viewing here, adapted from the original site, is designed for use by all physician educators and was developed through the Provincial Faculty Development Initiative, funded by the Government of Ontario and the Physician Services Committee. The difference between the Department of Family Medicine uOttawa site and this one is that this one does not include a database component. The database allows Department of Family Medicine preceptors at the University of Ottawa to create and store learners' support plans online using simple dropdown menus. The information in the support plans is then automatically integrated into the tracking system that allows preceptors to track learners' progress. Further, the support team is notified by email when support plans are created and the team can communicate about the learners' progress online. The preceptor is also sent reminders of when to follow-up with the learners. The information entered into the site is stored in a secure online database creating a record of the learners' progress and the support team's comments.
